Default Hello and a Question!

Hi there everyone, my name's DumbGenius. I felt like signing up because I have a few questions and I was wondering how Guild Wars is doing.

I have only had two MMO type games ever, take a guess - World of Warcraft, and Guild Wars. I bought WoW in december 2004 and Guild Wars just after it was released in '05.

So to get to my question... I've played Guild Wars quite a bit when I bought it and enjoyed it for the most part. I got confused on some stuff, but managed to get my Warrior Monk class to level 20 and got the 'Knights' armour. Now theres only one main reason I like WoW over GW, and that is the open world feature. Do you think this is ever going to be added to Guild Wars? I am sure this has been discussed before; but in my personal opinion it would make it a lot more enjoyable and I'm sure more people would play

I heard there was a new expansion coming out in the future that might have more WoW like features in it. I don't have any of the other expansions, and I haven't touched GW in about a year and a half. I'm not a WoW addict either (I only have a level 63 over the 3 years ), but I'm getting a bit bored of the constant grind sessions and rolling different characters; it's also adding up on my credit card each month.

So last question.. How much has guild wars improved over the years, and to tie it with my question about the open world - are there any other cool confirmed features to this new expansion?

Thanks,
DG

Open world will not be added until GW2, which is around 2 years away. Instancing isn't entirely a bad thing, though. WoW has plenty of instances for exactly the same reason GW is entirely instanced - no spawn point camping, the challenge is a set difficulty, nobody comes up and ganks you, etc.

I can say pretty surely that the game has become less like WoW over the last two years - WoW is a lot of grinding out levels and farming high end loot to make your character powerful enough to grind levels on harder enemies and farm higher end loot. Guild Wars is more about becoming a better player and tweaking your builds so you can beat that seemingly impossible mission.

That being said, they have improved the sense of character progression over time. There are titles, a huge amount endgame content, and tons of pretty loot if you're into that. GW allows rerolling your character at will and has essentially zero leveling treadmill - I think it takes an hour or two to hit level 20 in factions. It is significantly cheaper, even more so now that you can pick up discount version of the older chapters (which still have tons of players). There's lots of fun PvE gimmicks that have been added or will be added, like rollerbeetle racing, boxing, and challenge missions that are suspiciously similar to pac-man.

Guild Wars 2. So has that been confirmed, or is it a new expansion coming out first. I think if I reinstall Guild Wars, I would roll a new character because I have no clue where I was.. I remember back in the day you could 'gryphon' farm. I also remember I was trying to get these amazing warrior spells from some dragon, and I was trying to get to these lava islands? That was so long ago, do people still do that? Are the expansion packs connected to the old game?

p.s - is there an installer I can pick up online? I'm not at home, but I have my computer and I wouldn't mind installing.

Ok I'll bite, I'm staying a way from the WoW stuff because this is a Guildwars fan forum

*They are chapters and completely stand alone games, not expansions. There has only ever been 2 expansions announced for GW (SF and GWEN)

The next release is an expansion, called Eye of the north, or GWEN for short.

Guildwars will never have open world features added to it. It will never lift the level cap and it will never charge you to play!

Guildwars 2 will have some features like open world and a higher level cap, but these will be added/ mixed in with the features of GW that have proven popular.

The game changes after Lvl 20 and once you've finished a chapter. Your entertainment is completely up to u, and enjoyment is a personal thing inresponse to what you like, so to each his own.

You can pick up the game client here: http://www.guildwars.com/support/downloadclient/

Fair warning, it's a really big download

Sounds like you were about halfway through the first chapter and had done almost none of the level 20 content, which forms the really fun part of the game for most people. You'll still find a ton of people in all those areas you mentioned.

The "amazing warrior spells" you mention are elite skills. The dragon has 1 for warriors (it kinda sucks) and there start to be a crapload right at the point where you are. Gryphon farming was nerfed, but farming still exists, albeit in a very different form. There's almost no need to farm anymore to get cash to buy the things you need. You'll make enough now. Farming is now not very profitable if you just want a straight money farm, rather, you have to sell the rare items that drop for you (a lot of them do).

Wow! Someone knows what I'm talking about :-p I'm not that old. I remember I use to 'run' people to different areas to make money so I could get my knights gear and the gold dye.

I will definitely download the installer over night. What would be your personal choice of rolling a new class on the regular game, or do you think I should continue my warrior/monk ?

It's a linear game, not too hard to remember the missions, especially dragon's lair.

Up to you on whether to continue your wammo or not. You haven't done very many difficult missions yet and you have very few if any elite skills, so I doubt you really have a taste for the flavor of the class. Really just comes down to what you like playing.
